Quinta da Fonte Souto Red is a characterful red wine from vineyards at an altitude of 500 meters in the foothills of the Serra de São Mamede, near Portalegre in northern Alentejo. This location provides cooler and wetter conditions than elsewhere in the region, resulting in slower ripening, crisp acidity, and deep aromatic expression.
The wine is a refined blend of Alicante Bouschet, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Alfrocheiro. Half of the wine was aged for six months in 400-liter French oak barrels (second and third year), which imparts a subtle woody influence without overpowering the fruit.
Tasting notes:
- On the nose: a mix of Mediterranean forest scents with balsamic notes of pine resin and pinewood.
- On the palate: rich, juicy and complex, with flavours of forest fruits, hints of cloves and a lovely structure
- Finish: perfectly balanced with the fresh acidity.
Food pairing:
This wine pairs perfectly with spicy dishes, game, grilled red meat, stews or lamb with Provencal herbs.
