Sesame seeds come from small pods of the (originally African) Sesamun indicum. When the pods are ripe and dry, they burst open. The taste of black sesame seeds does not differ much from white ones.
Food pairing:
Black sesame is delicious with beans, chicken, eggplant, fish, green vegetables, honey, lemon, noodles, rice, ice cream, sugar and zucchini. The tastiest is to briefly roast the sesame seeds in a (non-stick) pan. You can use them as a finishing touch on noodles, salads, desserts and bread(s). Be sure to try finishing a beef tartare with some black sesame seeds. Not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the mouth.
