Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine 14Y is a special limited edition single malt Scotch whisky from the island of Islay. This release, also known as Yellow Submarine [Reclassified], is a tribute to a legendary story from the distillery's history and to Bruichladdich's 25th anniversary.
The story began about twenty years ago, when Islay fishermen John Baker and Harold Hastie discovered a remote-controlled submarine off the coast near the distillery. The striking vessel was safely returned to Bruichladdich, where it was stored until the Ministry of Defence came to collect its lost property. As a token of gratitude, the fishermen received a bottle of the aptly named Yellow Submarine at the time. Today, the submarine still stands proudly on the distillery grounds.
This new edition, just like the original release, has been aged for 14 years. The whisky was crafted from a refined combination of 75% first-fill bourbon barrels and 25% Bordeaux red wine casks, resulting in a rich, layered, and elegant taste experience. Bruichladdich remains true to its character: made from 100% Scottish barley, unpeated, powerfully bottled at 54.2% alcohol, and infused with the maritime DNA of Islay.
Tasting notes:
- On the nose: opens with sweet honey oatmeal, buttery shortbread, and a gentle grain warmth. Behind this emerge roasted hazelnuts, praline, nutmeg, and a rich, syrupy sweetness reminiscent of pistachio baklava. Pink pepper and a hint of ginger provide extra tension.
- On the palate: uxiously soft and full. Fresh orange peel brings liveliness, followed by honeysuckle, orange blossom, crisp apple, and juicy pear. Crème brûlée adds creaminess and depth, while golden heather and a gentle sea breeze transport you to the rugged coast of Islay.
- Finish: long, rich and warming, with honey sweetness, mild spices and roasted hazelnut that linger slowly.
A whisky for collectors, Bruichladdich enthusiasts, and everyone who loves powerful, elegant, and storytelling Islay single malts.
