Nikka
Nikka – Iconic Japanese whisky house with world renown
Nikka Whisky is one of Japan's most renowned whisky producers, known for its excellent single malts and blends that combine traditional Scotch technique with Japanese precision and craftsmanship. The brand boasts whiskies ranging from powerful and smoky to elegant and fruity—making it a favorite among both novice and experienced whisky enthusiasts.
The story behind Nikka
Nikka Whisky was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, a pioneer who studied in Scotland and learned to make whisky using traditional methods. Back in Japan, he built the first distillery in Yoichi, Hokkaido, chosen for its cool climate and water quality similar to Scotland's. Later, the Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai followed, giving rise to two whisky styles with distinct characteristics.
Taketsuru is considered the “father of Japanese whisky,” and his vision—a perfect balance between craftsmanship and innovation—lives on in the brand today.
Nikka is now a subsidiary of Asahi Breweries, but continues to produce premium Japanese whisky with a distinctive focus on malt, grain, and blended whiskies.
