Nikka Frontier is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky. In 1918, Taketsuru traveled to Scotland to learn the art of whiskymaking firsthand. He took that knowledge back to Japan, where he eventually founded his own distillery in Yoichi and helped lay the foundation for Japanese whisky culture.

To mark Nikka's 90th anniversary, the house returned to that original frontier spirit : continuing to experiment, pushing boundaries, and combining tradition with new ideas. The result is Nikka Frontier, a whisky with a distinctive character and a clear smoky signature.

For this creation, Nikka drew inspiration from, among other sources, a special whisky that the house has been producing for Japanese research teams in Antarctica for decades. In the extreme cold, a higher alcohol content was necessary, while non-chill filtration helped preserve a powerful, full flavor. That same philosophy forms one of the foundations of Nikka Frontier.

In the glass, an intense, smoky aroma unfolds, followed by a robust and layered taste. The character of the malt whisky from Yoichi plays an important role in this, giving the blend its distinctive depth and bold personality.
