The story behind Bruichladdich
Bruichladdich Distillery was founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers on the north shore of Loch Indaal in the Rhinns of Islay and was, in its day, one of the island's most modern distilleries. Although closed for a period, the distillery reopened in the early 2000s and has since been fully operational again, retaining many of its original Victorian production facilities and a strong emphasis on craft production and terroir.
Bruichladdich focuses on using quality barley (including local Islay barley), carefully selected casks, and traditional methods, with an emphasis on provenance — the importance of understanding where ingredients come from and how that affects flavor.
