A red from the Negroamaro grape in Puglia, made in stainless steel by Paolo Leo. Smooth and fruity, 13%. The winemaker pairs it with pasta and ragù himself, and I can only agree.

Millefiori Negroamaro – Puglia IGP 75 cl
Negroamaro is the grape of the heel of Italy's boot, southern Puglia. Cantine Paolo Leo in San Donaci makes this Millefiori from it: pure Negroamaro, fermented in stainless steel, no oak. An honest, approachable red.
Character
With no oak involved, the fruit comes first. At 13% it isn't heavy, more a smooth red that goes with lots of dishes. The winemaker writes it on the label: serve at 18 °C.
How I serve it
- With pasta and ragù: the pairing the winemaker recommends himself.
- With lamb: roast leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary.
- With grilled vegetables: aubergine, courgette and peppers off the grill.
- With a stew: a slow-cooked beef stew on a cold evening.
