Zathar or Za'atar - Le Comptoir Africain

Zathar, also written Za'atar, is Arabic for 'thyme'. In this case it is a blend of thyme, white sesame and sumac. Za'atar is often served with drinks: dip bread in good olive oil first, then into a bowl of zaatar.

Foodpairing:
Scatter it generously over a tomato, cucumber or simple green salad. Zathar works beautifully with white meat such as chicken or turkey, and just as well with fish and vegetables. Feel free to give this zathar blend your own twist by adding a little pepper, cumin or aniseed.
