Gomasio - 'goma' is the Japanese word for 'sesame' and 'sio' is the Japanese word for 'salt' - is a mixture of sesame seeds and unrefined sea salt. The unrefined sesame seeds are first lightly roasted separately and then finely ground together with the sea salt. In this way, each grain of salt is coated with the oil of the ground sesame seeds. A healthy way to season your food, with much less sodium than with pure salt.
