Gordon & MacPhail
Gordon & MacPhail – The masterful independent whisky bottler from Speyside
Gordon & MacPhail is one of the oldest and most respected independent bottlers and distillers of Scotch whisky, founded in 1895 in Elgin, Moray (Speyside region). The family-owned company is renowned for its vast collection of single malts—including some of the rarest and oldest whiskies in the world—which it matures and bottles with unparalleled expertise and passion.
The story behind Gordon & MacPhail
Gordon & MacPhail began in 1895 as a greengrocer and delicatessen in Speyside, founded by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail — with a simple philosophy: to offer superior whisky at a fair price.
Over the years, the focus shifted increasingly to whisky, specifically on maturing and bottling single malts from various Scottish distilleries in their own oak casks in Elgin. These casks are often stored for decades and bottled as rare, exceptional single malts.
The specialisation in single malts — from both working and closed distilleries — has given Gordon & MacPhail an almost legendary status in the whisky world.
Today the company continues to be run by the Urquhart family, who have set the course from their home in Elgin for generations.
